A little piece of happiness on a plate...                                                 Savoring every crispy bite of this perfectly fried fish...

INGREDIENTS:
  • Fish pieces- 10 pieces Rohu (my preference) [Or use any fresh water fish like catla]
  • Onion- 1
  • Ginger garlic paste- 1tbsp
  • Garam masala powder- 1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder- 1/2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder- 1tbsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Oil- 2tbsp [for marination]
  • Besan- 1tbsp [OPTIONAL]
  • Cornflour- 1tbsp [OPTIONAL]
  • Oil- [for frying]
Step 1: Cleaning
  1. In a bowl add fish pieces and salt. Gently scrub.
  2. Add little water and rinse the fish pieces. Now add again some salt and scrub. Leave for 10-15 mins.
  3. Add enough water and rinse thoroughly. Wash the fish 2-3 times with clean water.
  4. Leave the fish pieces in a strainer for some time and set aside.
Step 2: Marination
  1. Grind and make fine paste of onion, ginger, garlic.
  2. Mix all the masala (onion, ginger, garlic paste), red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric, besan, cornflour and oil to make a paste. Mix all fish pieces to this mixture.
  3. Gently coat the fish pieces with marination.
  4. Set aside for 30 mins.
[You can also store marinated fish pieces in freezer to fry next day]

Step 3: Frying
  1. In a pan put sunflower oil and heat it properly and use this oil to shallow fry.
  2. Now heat a heavy base cast iron tawa or a non-stick tawa.
  3. On a medium heat put 2-3 tbsp pre-heated oil and place fish pieces depending on the size of tawa.
  4. Shallow fry the fish pieces from both the sides till they are golden brown.
  5. Serve them hot with sliced onion and lemon wedges.
